5th Annual National Bioenergy Day Event

  • 18 Oct 2017
  • MaRS Discovery District, 101 College Street, Toronto

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry would like to extend an invitation for you to participate in the 5th annual National Bioenergy Day event on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 in downtown Toronto.

This event will bring together industry and government to showcase bioenergy, in the form of renewable natural gas (RNG), to explore the potential for RNG to help meet Ontario’s energy needs and contribute to provincial greenhouse gas reduction targets.

Renewable natural gas is pipeline-quality biogas which has been produced from renewable biomass instead of fossil fuels. Ontario is endowed with abundant natural resources which could make renewable natural gas a central part of Ontario’s transition to a sustainable, low carbon economy.

In May 2016, Canada’s natural gas utilities set a target of 5% RNG in the distribution system by 2025. Supporting the implementation of a renewable content requirement for natural gas to encourage the use of cleaner RNG in the industrial, transportation, and building sectors is an action under Ontario’s Climate Change Action Plan. Currently, the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change is developing a policy proposal for a renewable content requirement for natural gas.

This event will be of interest to building management companies and large contractors wanting to participate in Ontario’s low carbon economy, natural gas distributors working to support government policy on RNG, and senior managers interested in changes to Ontario’s energy systems.
